Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do People Go to Therapy?

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, each deeply personal and unique. Here

are some common reasons why individuals choose to engage in therapy:

  1. Emotional and Mental Health Challenges: Many people turn to therapy to address issues such as anxiety, depression, or chronic stress. Therapy provides a space to understand and manage these feelings in a constructive way.

  2. Life Transitions: Major life changes, such as divorce, job loss, or moving to a new city, can be overwhelming. Therapy helps individuals navigate these transitions and adapt to new circumstances.

  3. Relationship Difficulties: Whether it’s issues with a partner, family members, or friends, therapy can offer guidance and strategies to improve communication and resolve conflicts.

  4. Personal Growth: Some people seek therapy to explore their personal development, gain insight into their behavior, and work towards becoming the best version of themselves.

  5. Trauma and Past Experiences: Therapy provides a safe environment to process and heal from past traumas, abuse, or other significant life events that continue to affect a person’s well-being.

  6. Behavioral Issues: Therapy can be helpful for addressing patterns of behavior that individuals find troubling, such as substance abuse, eating disorders, or compulsive habits.

How Do I Know If Therapy Is Right for Me?

Deciding if therapy is the right choice for you is a very personal choice, and involves self-reflection and consideration of your personal needs. When you are open to self-reflection and growth, therapy is most effective when you’re willing to explore new perspectives and make changes. Feeling overwhelmed, experiencing relationship struggles, desiring personal growth, facing life transitions, dealing with trauma, seeking professional guidance, and many other reasons are signs that therapy may be beneficial.

What is therapy like at Psychological Wellness?

We provide a calm therapy environment in our relaxing office. Your first intake session is 1 hour to discuss your needs and background. Therapy is then personalized to meet each client’s unique needs. Weekly 45 minute sessions then might involve discussing recent life events, personal history relevant to your issues, and progress made. Therapy

can be short-term for specific issues or longer-term for more complex patterns and personal growth.

Do you take insurance?

While we are an out-of-network provider, do not let that scare you. Many insurances reimburse a substantial amount of your out-of-pocket expenses. We provide the convenient service of submitting your bills directly to insurance on your behalf. Then the reimbursement comes directly to you. You can email your insurance information to us directly and we can tell you your exact costs BEFORE committing.

Why aren’t you an in-network provider?

Due to insurance companies many restrictions on mental health providers, the cost of being in-network would not allow our small local business to keep our doors open, or hire the best clinicians. We are able to employ some of the best clinicians in the business and provide top notch quality care.

Which insurances have the best out of network benefits?

NYSHIP, GHI, BCBS, UHC, Oxford, Cigna, Aetna, and more

Do you accept Medicare?

Unfortunately Medicare will only allow Medicare providers. You would be out-of-pocket but we offer reduced rates for Medicare clients.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, we are negotiable for lower paying insurance plans and extenuating circumstances.
